I’m not saying it deserves 10/10 scores or anything, but I am saying that I personally like it quite a bit more than I thought I was going to, based on some of these absolutely brutal reviews, admitting that may be because I am a bigger series fan than most. Also the game’s checkpointing needs work, as it’s extremely annoying to fail a side horde rush mission and then end up all the way back at home base, instead of just being able to instantly restart it.īut all in all, if you’re an avid Saints Row player, this game looks and feels like a more polished version of the last few games, and if you can get past the swapping out of the cast, I really don’t see how you can play this and say it does not feel like a solid Saints Row offering. ![]() So you abandon the mission, then fast travel, then restart the mission now that you’re closer. But the game won’t let you fast travel near it. Like you’ll call someone to start a mission, and it’s 3,000 feet away. The things that bother me about the game are relatively minor. In addition to crafting specific dart guns and cardboard crossbows just for this mission chain, the game takes the brutal “execution” system where you melee murder enemies to regain health, and instead scripted a number of “fake” execution animations just for this LARP mission chain where you fake disembowel and decapitate enemies as they play-act it out and “die.” It’s clever! And shows a lot more attention to detail than I ever thought we’d get in a game like this. For instance, there’s one mission where I’m doing a LARP with my buddy. But there are little things I’m finding as time goes on. Not just through the truly insane level of customization, which is by far the most the series has ever had. I also respect that a good amount of work and detail has gone into Saints Row here. It’s not brilliant by any means (I mean, were Saints Row scripts ever?), but it’s passable, and I’ve even genuinely laughed a few times (when teaching a friend to shoot, my boss: “I just like to imagine there’s a little white crosshair on my target when I fire”). #Saints row 2 map button full#I’ve seen clips cut from missions that shows some dumb swearing the main character does, but it’s not all like that, and it’s not jammed full of dated pop culture references or anything like that either. The script is not amazing, yet it’s also not as bad as you’ve heard. But also like, did you play Saints Row 4? By the end there, the series was starting to be in pretty rough shape, and I’d argue that this reboot feels a lot more polished than 4 did at the time, and is closer to be on par with Saints Row the Third. If we are judging on the overall scale of AAA games these days, sure, there’s a lot about Saints Row that feels dated and unpolished. ![]()
